Archbishop Kazimba Begins Farewell Tour in North West Ankole Diocese

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, has arrived in North West Ankole Diocese in Ibanda District as part of his farewell tour across the Ankole region ahead of his retirement.

Archbishop Kazimba was received with a warm and jubilant welcome by hundreds of Christians, clergy, and church leaders upon his arrival at St. Paul’s Cathedral Church of Uganda, where he is expected to preside over a special thanksgiving service.

According to the North West Ankole Diocesan Secretary, Rev. George Turyasingura, the Archbishop’s regional tour is aimed at bidding farewell to Christians and expressing gratitude for the support he has received throughout his tenure as the spiritual leader of the Church of Uganda.

“The Archbishop is on a regional farewell tour to appreciate Christians for the support they have given him throughout his ministry and leadership as Archbishop of the Church of Uganda,” Rev. Turyasingura told Nile Post.

He added that the Archbishop’s visit will include a series of engagements with key stakeholders within the diocese, including clergy, heads of schools, political leaders, and representatives from all archdeaconries.

“During his stay in the diocese, the Archbishop will meet various stakeholders to reflect on the achievements registered by the Church, discuss future priorities, and strengthen collaboration between the Church and community leaders,” he said.

The planned meetings are expected to provide a platform for dialogue on the Church’s role in community development, education, and spiritual growth, as well as to chart a way forward for the diocese and the wider Church of Uganda.

Archbishop Kazimba, who became the ninth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda in 2020, is expected to retire in August 2027 after serving concurrently as Archbishop and Bishop of Kampala Diocese.

His farewell tour has drawn significant attention from Christians across the country, many of whom view it as an opportunity to celebrate his leadership and contribution to the growth and stability of the Church during his tenure.
